Enigma
Welcome to my blog. I would like to share with you the creative process and some of the meanings behind my work “Enigma“. This painting represents a moment of deep analysis and research, a symbolic journey into the complexity of the contemporary world, which required significant dedication and intense reflection.
The Creative Process
The creation of “Enigma” was an immersive experience, both technically and emotionally, from the initial preparation of the work. Each detail, each brushstroke was designed to convey a sense of mystery and focus. The three central figures, engrossed in the analysis of small objects, reflect a moment of study, research, uncertainty, and doubt. Their involvement is total, as if they are in silent dialogue with the artifacts they hold. The female figure acts as the communicative bridge or at least the attempt to break the abstraction of the other two subjects. I was greatly struck by the interaction between the figures in Caravaggio’s “The Cardsharps,” a painting I had the reverence to closely contemplate.
Composition and Symbolism
The choice of an atypical background was not accidental. I wanted to evoke and revisit the solemnity and timelessness of Renaissance paintings, creating a contrast with the humanity of the depicted figures. This background imparts an almost sacred dimension to the scene, elevating the act of research and analysis to a higher level.
The scattered objects on the table, including mannequin parts and geometric solids, symbolize fragments of knowledge and truth to be pieced together. The magnifying glass held by the central figure represents the need to meticulously examine every detail to arrive at a deeper understanding.
Technique and Details
The multi-layered oil technique used for this painting allowed me to explore a wide tonal range, bringing to life textures and details that would have otherwise been impossible to capture. Every face, hand, and object was rendered with meticulous attention, aiming to capture not just the physical appearance but also the subjects’ inner world.
The characters’ expressions are crucial: they convey focus, introspection, and a slight sense of tension. These details are not mere exercises in painting technique but essential elements in communicating the essence of the theme.
The Artist’s Struggle
Creating “Enigma” tested me as both an artist and an individual. The struggle to achieve such profound engagement required hours of work, reflection, and continuous reworking. Every brushstroke is the result of an inner dialogue between the idea and its visual expression.
It’s not just about representing reality, but exploring its hidden folds, seeking a deeper meaning that resonates with the viewer. This quest, this need to go beyond appearance, to break away from the media language of self-exaltation, aims to restore a more communicative and speculative value to images, whether artistic or not.
Conclusion
I hope that while observing “Enigma,” you can perceive at least a part of the journey I undertook to create it. It is a work that invites reflection, challenging the viewer to look beyond the surface and seek the hidden truth in the details. Thank you for taking the time to discover this piece of my artistic journey.
