Artist's Statement: The Aesthetic Reflection on Enigma
The Creative Process
The creation of “Enigma” was an immersive experience, not only due to the technical resources employed but also because of the significant emotional and mental commitment, starting from the preparation of the artwork. Every detail, every brushstroke was designed to convey a sense of mystery and focus. The three central figures, deeply absorbed in analyzing small objects, reflect a moment of study, research, uncertainty, and doubt. Their engagement is total, as if they are in silent dialogue with the artifacts in their hands. The female figure is the communicative bridge, or at least the attempt to break the abstraction of the other two subjects. I was particularly struck by the interaction between the figures in Caravaggio’s “The Cardsharps,” a painting I had the opportunity to contemplate with reverence and attention.
Technique and Details
The multi-layered oil technique used for this painting allowed me to explore a wide tonal range, bringing to life textures and details that would otherwise have been impossible to capture. Every face, every hand, and every object has been rendered with meticulous attention, aiming to capture not only the physical appearance but also the inner world of the subjects.
The characters’ expressions are crucial: they convey focus, introspection, and a slight sense of tension. These details are not mere exercises in technique but essential elements to communicate the essence of the theme.
Composition and Symbolism
The choice of using an unconventional background is not accidental. I aimed to evoke and revisit the solemnity and timelessness of Renaissance paintings, creating a contrast with the humanity of the portrayed figures. This background gives the scene an almost sacred dimension, elevating the act of research and analysis to a higher level.
The scattered objects on the table, including mannequin parts and geometric solids, are symbols of fragments of knowledge and truth to be pieced together. The magnifying glass held by the central figure represents the need to meticulously examine every detail to reach a deeper understanding.
The Artist’s Struggle
Creating “Enigma” was a process that tested me both as an artist and as an individual. The struggle to reach such a profound level of engagement required hours of work, reflection, and continuous reworking. Each brushstroke is the result of an internal dialogue between the idea and its visual expression.

It is not just a matter of representing reality, but of exploring its hidden folds, of searching for a deeper meaning that can resonate with the observer. This search, this need to go beyond appearance, to break with the media language of the image as an end of self-exaltation, wants to give images, whether they are artistic or not, a more communicative and speculative value.
